Dr. S. Premalatha
MBBS, DD., MD (Derm)., PhD., FAMS., FIMSA
Dr. S. Premalatha, born on 31st July 1941, is one of the senior professors of Dermatology. Did her UG and PG Dermatology studies at Madras Medical College, Chennai.
Completed 33 years of Tamil Nadu Govt Medical Service.
Served nearly half of her career as Asst Professor at the Skin Department of Madras Medical College (1969 - 1986).
Worked in Saudi Arabia as Dermatologist on Govt deputation for one year (1986 - 1987).
Posted on Promotion as ‘Civil Surgeon Skin Specialist’ at the Department of Skin, STD, Leprosy and Infectious Diseases in Govt Head Quarters Hospital at Cuddalore. South Arcot District, Tamil Nadu. (1987- 1989).
Professor of Dermatology at Tirunelveli Medical College and Hospital (1989-90)
Professor of Dermatology at Chengalpattu Medical College and Hospital (1990 – 1991)
Finally, Posted as Prof & HOD, Dept of Dermatology and Leprosy at Govt Stanley Medical College & Hospital (1991-1998) prior to retirement.

Social Service
Served in Medical camps especially for the Tribal people of hilly regions such as Kalvarayan Hills. Education of the Primary School children mainly of Corporation schools on Common Contagious dermatoses and about the prevention of Occupational and Industrial Dermatoses mainly Contact dermatitis in some of the well-known factories at Chennai by audio visual aids. Did Screening of the school children of some Primary schools for Leprosy on request. Care of the elderly of poor economic status at old age homes. Visited along with WDA (Woman Doctors Association of Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry).
Hobbies
Music, Painting, Photography, Writing Poems, Short stories and Articles on Skin Care in local magazines, Interior decoration, Travel and Tourism. Participated in All India Radio talks and TV shows in Chennai on ‘Skin diseases’ while in Govt Service.
